A New 4

Hey folks,

I just wanted to pop in and show you the newest Items in my shop. They just happen to be the top 4 in my shop's gallery.

The Red and White Peppermint Stick Scarf is my current favorite.

Measuring about 83 inches long and finished with a single pom-pom on each end, it's a fin way to get into the holiday spirit. Here I am modeling it:

I got the idea from my Halloween tube scarf. It's so Fun!

My other 3 newest items would make great stocking stuffers for yourself, a sister, or a girlfriend. Perhaps she's got a cute little short do and loves jazzing it up with hair clips and pins. A handmade hair clip would be the perfect addition to her collection, for sure.

And you can't go wrong with my neutrally colored gray and black flower/ snowflake pin. I think that when I first made it, my vision was of a fluffy, inviting snowflake, but the more I looked at it, the more I saw that it could also be called a flower.

Call it what you like, it's cute and is also a great winter accessory.

In the picture below, I jazzed up one of my mom's black leather purses with it. It would also look good on a fabric or textile bag.

You know, I never really know how to end a post like this one. Usually when I'm talking to some one face to face, I'll just say, 'ok bye' but how do you officially close a blog entry? lol

Oh yeah! - a little side note- I'm going to be putting a blog badge on here pretty soon, so that if some one out there loves my blog as much as I do, they can just grab it and hook it up to theirs.

I love sun dried clothes, don't you?

I'm usually scrambling around for clothes pins when I go to hang out my laundry.

I guess it took me a while to realize that I'm a crocheter who loves making practical things, but I finally got it! lol
I very much enjoyed making this little clothes pin pouch, which can be hung open or closed on the clothes line.

There will be more colors coming soon, so be on the look out!

What to do with it?

I smashed out this little baby hat while waiting for 200 numbers before mine to be called.
Now i'm unsure of what i'll make to go with it. originally, i was going to make a pixie like hat for a new baby boy that i know of, but the pink speckles in it stand out more than i thought they would, so, this one may wind up in my studio along with a coordinating blankie or vest.

I have attempted to make this cardigan with the yarn i used to make the baby beanie, but it always came out doll sized. there is no guage for the pattern, so i found myself just working it over and over again until i got to a point wher it was obviously way wrong.
(to finally find that i need a K hook to get the size right)

So, i'm pondering- a sort of granny sqaure blanket with the speckled yarn as the centers and a baby blue yarn for the main color; or a baby cardigan to go with this hat?

Stamp That!

I've been hopping around the idea of starting a new craft. first i thought i wanted to do wire work, but i had none on hand and didn't know when i'd be able to get to the craft store to get some. after researching which kind of metals were the best as far as hypo allergenic stuff goes (if there is a such thing) i've decided to go with half hard sterling silver.
i'm not sure where i'll get this from, or how much it'll cost, but i'd love to start making earwires.

erasers are cheaper, and i already have an x-acto knife, so- the first new thing i'm trying is stamps. this is my first one and it's rather rough, i know but its still mine and i love it!

ok- maybe not love- it's so flawed, lol but!- it's not the worst i'm sure so i'll go with it.

I'd like to be able to create simple stamps with "LC' on them so i can Lanee's Crochet some stuff up!

if i can find my 40% off coupon to Michaels, i'm going to get a full x-acto knife set. I've read that i'll also need some tracing paper. i just can't wait until i master this!

to pom pom?

so, i did get the hat done- almost. after looking at the picture and asking one other person, i've decided to add a pom pom to the top. it's already made, i just wasn't sure if it would look right on there.
i'm wondering about the washability of things with pom-poms. i love that a lot of my stuff is easy to care for, but what will the care instructions for this one say?

of my to do list, i got around to 3. and i didn't go to bed until about 3am.
i'd say i need a productivity boost =-(

My new favorite little thing

last month or so, i went to michaels and they were having an awesome sale on yarn. While i was grabbing as much as my little pocket book could hold, i also picked up a set of pom-pom makers. before, i was just doing the whole wrap around the fingers thing and having to trip a lot of the pom-pom away. but those little things- i LOVE. i think they've got me looking for more reasons to make pom-poms now.

my first one didn't turn out too pretty, but i've learned that it was because i didn't wrap it around tight enough. i used the medium sized maker for the pom-poms that are attatched to an earflap hat that i made last night and will be listing very soon.




I love the way this hat turned out!
so much so that i'm thinking of doing a more girly version (even tho this one could be worn by both sexes)

recycled packaging

I had a wonderful New Years Eve night, and i hope you did too!

It's been so long since i've blogged, hasn't it?

some time last year, i purchased something on etsy from a person is costa rica. along with my order, she sent some candy, which was nice.
we chatted every night for a while, and while doing so i think i asked her if she had ever had a werthers hard candy. she said no, and so, i wanted to send her some.

The package i got from her came in a handmade envelope which was made of magazine pages. i thought it was way cool and so cute, foreign words all over the place!
i felt like a small piece of costa rica had been delivered to me with that package.

Here is the package that i made up for her, filled with candies:
unfortunately, it never was sent out. the fire happened before i could get to the post office, and with it having been exposed, sending it would not be a good idea.

i think it's been out side this whole time, and i was surprised that it hadn't been thrown out with all the other stuff.










i am going somewhere with this! lol

I'm thinking of doing this type of recycled packaging for my smaller items that don't NEED to be in a bubble mailer.
right now, i pay about 80 cents for a small mailer in which a hair clip or pin would just jiggle around.
i'm thinking that if i'm selling something for less than 8 bucks, and shipping is almost 2...
well, it might go better if shipping was only 1 dollar.

I absolutely love to crochet! =-)

I've known how to for a while but recently, I've felt the need to get more serious about it and to be more productive with it.
here I'll share some of my work and feelings on it.
I like working on smaller projects that can be completed quickly. I love the almost instant gratification they give. I'd have to say that the best thing about crocheting is knowing that the work you've done is appreciated. Nothing feels better than knowing that my time wasn't wasted on a project. Crochet is like candy- I'm SO hooked!


I have been crocheting since I was about 13 years old. I am now a 24 year old Stay at Home Mom to a 5 year old who is practically one third of my life. The other two being my family and crocheting.
My aunt showed my the basics of crochet but I knew that there was so much more to learn and thus my quest to make anything crochetable began. I taught myself how to read patterns. I think I'm pretty good at it. (I'm hoping you'll agree). I love knowing that whether it's being cooked, baked, crocheted or simply made by me, my hard work and attention to that particular thing is appreciated.

Can ya tell that i love being appreciated? lol

I'm a new spinner who has a drop spindle and a bit of wool to play with and perfect some spinning techniques. Watch out spinning world when I do get it down!

I'm starting to want to venture into other crafts and handmade realms, so you may see a bit of wire working, gardening, zine writing, carving or what ever else is able to spark a fancy in me.
